T-Minus a Week and Some Change

The draft is mere days away and the Rams plan is all over the place. For example, look at ESPN’s draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. In his four mock drafts he has done recently the Rams are projected to take a DT, CB, DE, and WR. So what do we make of this?
Head coach Scott Linehan, if last year is any indication, has removed all of the leaks at Rams Park. He also did a masterful job of trumping up interest last year in QB, Jay Cutler, and trading down and acquiring more picks, while getting his target in Tye Hill. That being said what we make out of all the Ted Ginn WR, Ohio State talk coming from the Rams. Would he fit? Sure Bruce, Holt, and company are getting older. Ginn would be a fix as a return specialist, but with Bennett’s new 6 year deal, coupled with Holt and Bruce’s salary, how much money can a team really afford to put into one position?
As I look at mock after mock, one thing becomes clear on paper: There are few sure fire prospects this year. After the top 8-10 go, it will be a repeat of last year. If a team needs or covets that one player they will trade up for him. The Rams may find themselves in the same position to drop a few spots, pick up a pick, and still get a highly rated need player on their board.
On a side note, I want to give my heart-felt condolences to all those at Virginia Tech that have been affected by this tragedy.
