No Improvement For the Rams?

If you wander around the Internet and check out all the "talking heads" you'd be lucky to get an inkling of improvement on the team. From the way most of them talk you'd think that the team simple sat dormant during the off season and the draft.

As if it weren't bad enough that we got totally passed over during our actual draft pick. Here, when most teams were being talked about during their time on the clock, we find the Rams being totally ignored during their time on the clock as they chit chat about picks of the teams on previous picks. In fact the Rams fans were lucky that they actually remembered to shut up long enough during our pick for them to announce Adam Carriker's name.

And now as we surf through the Internet we are inundated with predictions of the Rams be pushed out of the way by the Cardinals and Whiners in position in the West. We're lucky if we get picked to have a one game improvement over last year with all the additions the Rams have on the team. Even the Rams local press can't muster up a better prediction than a one game improvement. Yet at the same time you'll hear contradictory statements on how Drew Bennett and Randy McMichael will increase the power of the offense perhaps propelling them to the top offense in the NFC if not the league.

OK, so if that's the case, how then can the Rams only improve by one game over last year? And with a healthy Pace to boot. It boggles the mind.

And all this talk of Dante Hall as a possible has been....maybe not in those terms, but it's been alluded to. Come on, we've not had a person that knew how to play special teams since the days of Tony Horne. Anyone with the desire to play on special teams and actually relishes playing on special teams has got to be a major improvement. So maybe he won't have those huge runbacks for TD's like we all want to see, but at least he has enough intelligence and skill to get us farther down the field than 5 or 10 yards. That in itself will improve the Rams of this year over last year. Good field position!

Give Bulger good field position with the following players and you tell me if the possibility of only a one game improvement over last year is all the Rams are capable of:

Torry Holt
Isaac Bruce
Drew Bennett
Randy McMichael
Steven Jackson
Brian Leonard
Dante Hall (Let's not forget the guy knows how to catch a pass or two as well)

So of course that's not good enough....after all, the SB champs won with the 32nd ranked defense in the NFL, but the Rams can't even seem to be able to improve by more than one game because of their defense. Excuse me, didn't we bring in some help? Oh that's right, for some reason they believe that a couple of players just can't improve a unit......hmmmm didn't they say that with the addition of players like Bennett and McMichael could propel the Rams offense to maybe the best in the league? How contradictory is that?

Enter James Hall and Adam Carriker.....just ask Leonard Little how excited he is to have these two players on the team. James Hall will be the ideal bookend for Little making it hard for teams to continue to double team Little during the season and this could really wreck havoc on opposing quarterbacks. And let's not be afraid to allow the rookie Carriker to strut his stuff from day one. The only beef Little has about him is that he needs to work a little on his technique, other than that Little has confidence that this kid will make an impact the first day he walks onto the field.

Barring injury, this writer thinks the Rams are capable of at least a 10-6 season maybe even an 11-5 season. No one's perfect and we all know that predicting any team to take the NFL by storm is a pipe dream, but it's not a pipe dream to think the Rams can do better than 8-8 or 9-7.

GO RAMS !!!
