Can Long Be the Savior?

I’ll be the first to admit that I wanted the Rams to draft Glenn Dorsey I have watched every one of Dorsey’s collegiate games, and have thought for two years he was the most dominate defensive player in the NCAA.

Fast forward: The Rams have made Chris Long their choice so as a fan let me dust off my crystal ball and try to see into the future.

1. With the family pedigree conceivably Chris Long could resurrect this franchise like Peyton Manning did for the Colts. - I know trying to compare a QB and a DE is tough but like Manning, Long seems to have the voice of a mature veteran even before he has played a game in the NFL. - Manning has been described as a once in a lifetime prospect. He perfectly mixed athletic ability with a presence in the lockeroom, and with the community. - On the surface Long could be the face of the Rams, and St Louis.

2. Long has displayed at the college level a passion, and enthusiasm on the field that energized and made his fellow defensive players better. - The Rams have lacked the vocal, defensive player since London Fletcher left in the worst free agent blunder to date.

3. Lastly it has always perturbed me that position players are always compared to a player of the same race. For example Long has been compared to Kampman, and Kearney both white DE’s. Dorsey was compared to Warren Sapp and the list goes on. If Long becomes a sack artist will he then be compared to Strahan, Reggie White, or even LT (a hybrid DE/LB). My thoughts are you will hear he looks like a young Kevin Greene or Mark Gastineau . SO LAME.

Go Rams!
