State of the Rams

When discussing or pondering the state of the St Louis Rams you must look at the organization from the top down.

Ownership: Chip & Lucia Rosenbloom inherit controlling interest after their Mother’s death. Chip Rosenbloom has publicly expressed concern on the expense running the team will be, as well as the tax issues when his Mothers’ estate is finalized. It should be well noted by now that Chip Rosenbloom will still continue to primarily reside in Los Angeles, CA.

Yahoo Sports ran an article this summer claiming that people in the know believe the Rams are quietly for sale. Rosenbloom’s response to the article was that he hoped to keep the team, and the team remaining in St Louis was a family priority.

President of Rams:

Unclear to me how much John Shaw is still guiding this team. Reports have him phasing himself out after this year. Long time friend Jay Zygmunt I believe holds this title now. A noted capologist, and money man, Zygmunt likes to think he’s a football man, but at the end of the day would be better served as the Rams money manager.

Head Coach Scott Linehan:

If the Rams would not have lost their owner many believe Linehan would have been fired. A few years of success in a few NFL cities had fans and ownership hopeful that they landed a young up and coming coaching prospect. Two seasons, one with horrific results have many wondering not if but for how long have the players lost faith in Linehan.

Players:

Bad draft, and worse free agent pick-ups, coupled with aging leaders have this team is desperate straits. When you watch the season opener and you come away with the notion that Punter, Donnie Jones was the best performer, your team has major issues.

So after my redundant summary what is the state of the Rams?

Strong confident owners, aren’t afraid to higher strong personalities to run the football side of things. Confident team presidents higher good coaches, that may not be fun to work with but get the job done. Confident, secure coaches know how to control players, even a TO, or a talented player who has a few issues.

From top to bottom this franchise needs a new and clear vision. It all starts with the Rosenblooms. In or out they need to be leaders, and show that they love this team so everyone else will follow suit.

Go Rams!
