Should He Stay or Should He Go Now?

Before last week began, the Rams had the #5 spot in the draft. Now by losing to the frickin Seahags, they have moved all the way up to #2. Whether or not they should keep losing to secure winning that pick is an argument unto itself, but it would appear that such an argument is moot because try or not, the Rams lose. They just can’t help it: The fumble by Klopf took an eternity to be scooped up, by the Hags of course, and on that last drive when all we needed was 35 yards to get into field goal range what do we do but three lame ass passes that ate up all of ten seconds. Unbelievably poor play calling, execution, and game management. Looks like it’ll be the Rams picking second again.

When Haslett took over, he was told that if he won six games that the HC job was his for sure next year, only to have this arrangement shafted by the discriminatory Rooney Rule. Now that the Rams have proceeded to lose every game since winning the first two under him, all signs point to him not getting the job anyway. I think that would be a huge mistake. The team blew their wad against the Skins and Cowboys, and only lost to the Patriots by 7 and the Dolphins by 4. The NFC East leading Patriots and Dolphins. Just because the team didn’t win the six games shouldn’t mean Haslett is finished, and either should the fact that he is white. Give him a shot at a full season. We give players a pass when they miss training camp, so why not the coach who wasn’t the coach during camp either? Who wasn’t the coach until inheriting a dysfunctional group of players in week 6 for game 5 on the road and won. With another #2 pick, the Rams and Haslett should be poised to begin winning again in 2009.

Go Rams!
