Did you ever wonder what makes up a TRUE Rams fan? Well, perhaps I should start with what some of us believe does NOT make a TRUE Rams fan.
1. Someone who jumps on when the going gets good and proclaims their undying love for you. Then becomes the first person off at the first sign of trouble.
2. Someone who will swear they'd stand up to anyone who DARES to insult you. But becomes the first one to boo you the minute you do one single thing wrong.
3. Someone who will trash talk the other teams as long as you are winning. But becomes the first one to trash talk you the minute you start losing.
4. Someone who would have been embarrassed to even mention your name pre SB era. But claims to all the world that they were behind you every minute along the way once you won the SB. Now these same people are hiding their jerseys away in their closets as we speak.
5. Someone who buys season tickets on the 50 yard line to proclaim their love for you and to prove to the world how loyal they are for spending so much money on their team and now moans and groans about the wasted money and boos you as you enter and leave the field. Because they feel they have the right to do so. After all, that money they spent proves it!
6. Someone who claims they know EVERYTHING there is about the Rams, yet ask them a few historical questions about the team and they stumble. But they'll always remember your losing decade and any loss since then.
7. Someone who believes EVERYTHING the media dishes out about you and sides with all the good that's said but will also side with all the venom they dish out and adds more of their own on just about any Rams forum they can find out there.
8. Someone who believes that the three years of the SB era was nice while it lasted. But believes it's over guys, thanks for nothing cause we'll NEVER see this again.
So what makes a TRUE Rams fan you ask? Good question. Here's what we think makes a TRUE Rams fan
1. Someone who can honestly say that they've been following the team since before the Fearsome Foursome, since the Fearsome Foursome, since the 70's, since the 80's, since the 90's you name it but they have the passion in their eyes and the proof behind their words.
2. Someone who can recall the bad times with as much passion as the good times.
3. Someone who can name moments in Rams history before the SB era and enjoy them as much as more recent years.
4. Someone who yells and screams with passion whether it be at a live game, sportsbar or watching their own TV at home, not mattering whether you are winning or losing, but truly because they love you as part of their family.
5. They cry tears of joy when you achieve things never dreamed of and tears of sorrow when a player is hurt or things just don't go right for the team.
6. They proudly wear the old colors, the new colors, but you'll never see them hide their colors at the back of their closet showing their shame for a losing season, or even a losing decade. Instead they wear their colors more proudly and more defiently in front of those who scoff at them, make fun of you (Rams), call you (Rams) a joke.
7. You'll never hear them boo you or trash talk you on any forum, instead you'll hear them telling the boo birds to hush their mouths, asking them if they could do any better, if so, go and prove it, you'll see them defending you on every forum with tooth and nail despite the fact they are being admonished at ever turn.
8. You won't hear them complaining about the wasted money on their season tickets, because they don't have season tickets, they scraped up every penny they could find to buy the best ticket available for a game, if that meant they had to drive miles and miles just to buy the ticket at some box office of the opponent, or had to settle for what was left over after the season ticket holders took the choice seats at the dome. If that means "Bob Ucher" seats then so be it. But to a true fan, it was worth every penny no matter what the seat or the cost or the hassle getting that ticket. It was worth every minute, every hassle and EVERY penny.
9. They are someone who will be the FIRST one at the game and the LAST one to leave even if you didn't win the game, they'll be there with open arms to greet and support you.
10. When the season is over everything will remain the same for them whether you won or lost, their things they display in your honor will remain in tact, their jerseys will be easily accessable in their closets to wear on a whim, they will continue to add more Rams things desired onto their Christmas Wish Lists and when they receive those items they will proudly display them, wear them and tell all their friends about them!
11. A TRUE Rams fan will ALWAYS stick by your side, there is never a doubt in their minds that to leave you behind would be no different than turning their back on their best friend or a family member.
12. To root for another team would be as alien as trying to leave their native language behind and try learning a new one.
13. A TRUE Rams fan feels honored to have experienced the joy of the past three years, they are thankful for what you have given them and they will NEVER forget as well as they will NEVER believe that one off season will end it all FOREVER!
14. A TRUE Rams fan appreciates the integrity of this team, the goodness you bring on and off the field. The honor you bring to the game of football. A TRUE Rams fan loves you for who you are NOT for what you do!!
We love you, we feel your joy as well as your pain. Now at this point in time your pain and disappointment reaches our hearts so strongly that we feel you needed to know that there are some of us out here that REALLY do care and REALLY do support you and will NEVER turn our backs on you, not when you need us the most! We are here for you, as we have ALWAYS been through the years, NOTHING has changed and it NEVER will!
Now that's what being a true Rams fan is all about!!
