Relevant and Irrelevant

Chris Long being picked #1 overall in the Rams draft I suppose make him the most relevant Rams rookie as compared “Mr. Irrelevant” himself David Vobora. How does the relevance of a player affect the pressures of the job?
Being Chris Long these days comes with a lot more pressure than it does for David Vobora. This is not to say that Vobora will not compete to try and make a roster spot and lose the tag of “Mr. Irrelevant”, but the pressure that faces Long is far different.
With Long, it is already expected of him to start at his position. It is already expected of him to make an impact on the defense. From day one, the moment he steps into the locker room it will be expected of him to prove that he was worth the decision to take him as the teams’ #1 guy.
And if that were not enough, despite the fact he has had to deal with it all his life, he has the shadow of his Hall of Fame father following him. Even though he’s use to this, it’s those that are around him and those in the media that will find it hard not to compare him to his father every chance they get.
Where on the other side of the coin David Vobora simply has to provide some sort of proof that he’s worth keeping on the team for depth, because not much else is expected of him at this stage of his career.
Good luck to both of them in obtaining what is expected of them.
Go Rams!
