I, for better than 25 years now, have been a diehard Rams fanatic.. Some of those years there was standing room only on the Rams bandwagon. Other years the paper bag was standard equipment to pack in for home games. But through the blues and through the golds,I have never been anything but diligent to my team.
My earliest memories of this obsession were of a five foot something Pat Haden, who had a heart ten feet tall, but still could barely manage to see over the heads of his own offensive line. I spent many a Sunday in Southern California next to my radio in the old days of no NFL Sunday Ticket, following the play by play and picturing what has turned out to be some of my longest withstanding memories of true grit and determination on the field. (How many linemen today would even suit up with a broken leg,let alone play a championship game?)
The most heartbreaking of days for me was when I saw the headline in the Los Angeles Times that told me my already displaced Anaheim Rams were packing it in once again and leaving the state entirely. Fittingly enough and with nothing left there to cheer about, my family and I packed up and left too, and we make our home in Portland, OR these days.
But although the years have passed and the places have changed, one thing has remained a constant and always will; Summer will always take a back seat as my favorite time of the year to opening day. And my favorite Rams moment will always be that rush of adrenaline that comes with the boys running down field after that opening kickoff!
GO RAMS !!!
